Caralyn Kieckhaefer - Ceramics & Raku
I have been working with the clay form for over 40 years. I have always loved the feel of this medium and am constantly
amazed at the potential for beautiful design, composition, and uniqueness of this art form. My preferred clay is porcelain, both high fire and raku, and this year, adding paper clay for more sculptural pieces. My influences have an oriental flavor with a natural flora and fauna look.
Throughout the years, I have learned to make my own glazes and have perfected my forms and glazing techniques - requiring I be part chemist and part engineer. I use multiple air brushes to provide an array of color. My many years of experimentation and trial and error, result in unique creations I hope will be appreciated, taken into one's home, or provide that special one-of-a-kind gift for the special occasion.
My pottery business has grown from selling at street fairs where I learned what appeals to the public eye, into a full-time wholesale and corporate gift business. My fish pieces are a favorite at many fishing resorts and gift shops throughout
Alaska. I participate in one wholesale show a year, and have a great relationship with my clients that I ship to.
I am enjoying my life as a clay artist. It has allowed me the free time to be at home, take care of my Mother, and to be with my children and grandchildren. My creative designs keep coming! This inspires me to continue my life's vocation
