Calligraphy, gardens, time spent on our waters, forests and mountains emerge not as images planned but as memories, dreams really, that take on a life of their own as the painting evolves. Gestural symbols, I express joy in color and shapes. My art is visual music.
I started as a printmaker with one of a kind prints called monotypes eventually moving to collage in an attempt to build more layers and texture to my work. Discovering encaustic or hot wax painting expanded this obsession as I could paint wax on my monotypes and build up the wax with many layers and then carve, shape and excavate to reveal the hidden dimensional beauty.
Recently I have moved off the 2 dimensional canvas to incorporate my monotypes and encaustic techniques into small assemblages and 3 dimensional mixed media pieces featuring organic materials such as cork, cedar, rust, copper, cardboard, glass and found objects.
