Sue Skelly’s work is rooted in reverence for Western Red Cedar and the quiet beauty of vintage buttons. For over 30 years, she has sustainably harvested and prepared cedar roots, branches, bark, and rails to create garden structures, 3D sculptures, and wall hangings. Her contemporary approach honors the tree’s generosity and spirit. Sue’s button necklaces—made from mother of pearl, horn, porcelain, bone, and vegetable ivory—reflect a lifelong passion for collecting. Initially reluctant to part with her treasures, she found joy in seeing others connect with their history and charm. Her work has been featured in national garden publications and is available at her Poulsbo studio by appointment, during Art in the Woods, at Front Street Gallery and the Indianola Holiday Sale.
